What Is an Arch Brow? How Brow Mapping Follows Your Face

An arch brow is not one fixed shape copied onto every face. At CHAEUDA, a semi-permanent makeup studio in Hongdae, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, the arch is the point where your brow turns from rising to falling, and where that point sits is decided by your own bone structure and features. This guide explains what an arch brow is, how brow mapping finds the right arch for you, and how the same design works across every brow technique at CHAEUDA.
Quick Answer: An arch brow is a brow shape with a soft high point, or peak, placed to suit the face. At CHAEUDA, the arch is mapped from your bone structure and eye shape before any pigment goes in, then applied with the technique that suits your skin. Individual results may vary.
What Is an Arch Brow?
An arch brow is a brow that rises gently from the head, reaches a high point called the peak, and then tapers down toward the tail. The arch gives the face lift and balance, but only when its height, position and angle match the face it sits on.
CHAEUDA’s signature is a refined, softly arched brow. “Soft” matters here: the goal is a curve that looks like your own brow on a good day, not a sharp, drawn-on angle. Every design is built around your features rather than a template, which is why no two arch brows at CHAEUDA look exactly the same.
Where Should the Arch Sit on Your Face?
The arch usually sits about two-thirds of the way along the brow, above the outer part of the eye. Classic facial aesthetics give a useful starting point, but the final position always depends on the individual face.
An aesthetic analysis of the ideal eyebrow shape and position describes the brow head starting in line with the side of the nose and the inner corner of the eye, and the peak sitting above the outer edge of the iris. The same paper notes that a peak placed too far toward the center can look surprised, while a low head with a high outer peak can look angry. It also concludes that no single ideal eyebrow suits every face.
Preferences also differ across faces and cultures. In a study of eyebrow preferences in East Asian faces, women most often preferred a smooth arched brow, with the peak on or just outside the outer corner of the eye. These are guides, not rules, and brow mapping is how they are adjusted to you.

How Does Brow Mapping Work at CHAEUDA?
Brow mapping is the process of measuring and drawing your new brow shape on your face before any pigment is placed. At CHAEUDA, it is the longest and most careful part of the appointment.
Consultation — You talk through the shape, thickness and boldness you want, and You-jung Kang looks at your bone structure, eye shape and natural brow growth.
Measuring — The start, peak and end of the brow are measured against your features so both sides can sit in balance.
Freehand sketch — The shape is drawn in pencil on your face, adjusted together with you, and redrawn until the symmetry holds from every angle.
Your approval — Pigment only goes in once you have seen the shape and confirmed it.
Because one artist designs and performs every appointment, the person who maps your arch is the same person who places every stroke. You can read more about that approach in what CHAEUDA is and how the studio works.
Which Technique Works Best for an Arch Brow?
The arch is a design, not a technique, so it can be created with any of CHAEUDA’s brow methods. The technique is chosen for your skin and the finish you want.
Nano Brow (Hair Stroke) → The finest, closest strokes for a soft, dense arch that looks like natural hair
Microblading → Bolder, defined hair strokes for a crisper arch on normal to dry skin
Microshading (Powder Brow) → A soft powder finish that holds the arch well on oily or combination skin
Combo Brow → Hair strokes at the head and soft shading through the arch and tail for more depth
If you are deciding between techniques, our guides on what Nano Brow is, powder brows for oily skin and combo brow vs powder brows explain each option in detail.
Who Is an Arch Brow Best For?
An arch brow suits most faces when its height and position are adjusted to the individual. It is especially worth considering if your natural brows are flat, uneven or sparse at the peak.
Good candidates for an arch brow:
Brows that look flat or straight and make the face look tired
Brows with uneven peaks, where one side sits higher than the other
Brows that thin out at the peak or tail
Guests who draw an arch with pencil every morning and want a long-lasting version
Not ideal for:
Anyone who prefers a straight brow with no visible peak
Anyone who wants a sharp, dramatic angle rather than a soft curve
The same eye for proportion also shapes CHAEUDA’s hairline work. If your hairline feels out of balance with your brows, see hairline tattoo or scalp micropigmentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an arch brow?
An arch brow is a brow shape with a soft high point, or peak, placed to suit the face. It rises from the head, peaks above the outer part of the eye and tapers toward the tail.
Will an arch brow make me look surprised?
It should not when the peak is placed correctly. A surprised look usually comes from a peak set too high or too close to the center of the face, which careful mapping avoids.
Can I choose how high my arch is?
Yes. The height is discussed and drawn together during mapping, and pigment only goes in after you approve the shape.
Can an arch be added if my brows are naturally straight?
In most cases, yes. A soft arch can be built into a straight brow, though the final height depends on your bone structure and where your own hairs grow.
How long does an arch brow last?
That depends on the technique. Nano Brow, for example, typically lasts 12 to 24 months, and results vary with skin type, sun exposure and aftercare. Individual results may vary.
Ready to Design Your Arch?
The right arch is easier to find in person, with your face in front of the mirror. CHAEUDA welcomes English, Japanese and Chinese-speaking guests for consultation, and you can send a photo of your brows before your trip to talk through the shape.
